Japan launches plastic car made from 90% plastic
Japan has unveiled the world's first car with 90% of its components made from various types of plastic, according to reports.
The new concept car, developed under the framework of the government's Innovative Technology Program, is the result of a collaboration between scientists at the University of Tokyo and the automaker, NHK reported. Due to the use of various types of plastic, the car weighs 40 percent less than the average car. In doing so, energy could be saved and new prospects opened up for the development of electric vehicles.
It was previously thought impossible to use plastics in car manufacturing because they were not strong enough. Scientists solved this problem by combining various types of plastic. It is the world's first car with 90% of its vital parts made from plastic.
